A common misconception among amateur writers is that "random" equals "funny."

This is a half-truth. Tossing together word salads like "I'm the son of a cup of tea" or "I hang a ninja by the clothes hamper" are chuckleworthy, but they can get grating and they aren't jokes in and of themselves. There's no setup, no punchline. It's just "ninja pirate ghost monkey, that is the joke."
