I resent the Terminator franchise and what it did to the field of artificial intelligence research, and I think James Cameron does, too. He seemed to take a great deal of effort to rectify the damage his first film had wrought by depicting AIs in his following films as either benevolent or capable of benevolence, as in Bishop in Aliens or the good T-800 in Judgment Day.

Unfortunately, much of the general public still cites Skynet as an example of the folly of AI research, and Cameron's own efforts to undo his crimes against science seem unheeded.
